VMA Nominee: Fall Out Boy – “My Songs Know What You Did In the Dark (Light Em Up)

“My Songs Know What You Did In the Dark” by Fall Out Boy was released in February and has a nomination for Best Rock Video in the MTV Video Music Awards this August. It’s part of their fifth album, Save Rock and Roll. This album is a great comeback for Fall Out Boy who hasn’t released an album in four years. The song is strong and makes a great statement that they are back to kick more rock and roll butt. The video is tied in well to the “I’m on fire” aspect of the lyrics as a bad boy and two ladies appear out of a van and light one massive bonfire in a secluded dark forest and throw in rock instruments and old Fall Out Boy albums. This signifies the rebirth of the band with their new album, even including a track very fittingly titled “The Phoenix.” You start to wonder if Fall Out Boy will actually make an appearance in the video when at the last frame, a van is opened to reveal four guys tied up with bags on their heads who we presume to be the band. Fall Out Boy’s history is involved in this video and I’m sure true fans will appreciate the meaning behind “My Songs Know What You Did In the Dark.”
