Rock On Philly’s Your Perfect Weekend: The New Year Edition

Before we begin, Rock On Philly would like to wish all of our readers a Happy New Year. We hope that New Year’s night was enjoyable and here’s to starting the year off fresh with a great weekend itinerary.

Friday’s theme is cool and calm as you collect yourself from an eventful week. Start off your night at Inde Blue on 13th and Walnut. This Indian-styled restaurant provides an authentic and cozy atmosphere with an expert chef who will leave your stomach feeling satisfied.

At night head over to Chris’s Jazz Café just north of Rittenhouse Square on Samson. There you will find yourself being serenaded by The Alex Claffy Quartet and later, Luke Carlos O’Reilly & his Trio. Music starts at 8 pm and continues until 2 am so you’ve gone a long night of good music ahead of you.

Following your late night, brunch might seem like more your speed this morning. Café Lift, a few blocks north of Callowhill, offers a gourmet breakfast menu alongside notable lunch items.

As the day slips by, you might glance over at the clock and realize that it is almost time for the Eagles game. McGillin’s Old Ale House in Center City is your Saturday night location for both great food and an exciting game. Their menu is not your average bar food, sporting dishes like the German Sausage Platter and Sheppard’s Pie, not to mention their selection of microbrews.

In the afternoon, a brisk trip over to the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts for their exhibit of KAWS would be a swell time. This Brooklyn-based sculptor brings a little edge into the world of fine arts. You’ll ever have the chance to witness his almost ten foot high “Born to Bend” featured on the right.

A traditional Italian dinner is on the menu for this evening. Modomio in Northern Liberties is a reasonable, yet delicious option with all of the veal, seafood and eggplant you’d expect. In addition to their menu variety, Modomio also emits a relaxing and welcoming ambience that will make you feel at home.
