Who To See At The 2016 Xponential Festival

The 2016 WXPN Xponential Music Festival is nearly upon us, kicking off this Friday July 22nd the three-day annual celebration of music features a potent line up of creative artists and has been much anticipated by fans in the region. Amidst this year’s line-up it is fun to try and pick out priority sets one would not want to miss, and so on behalf of Rock on Philly I present to you my picks for who to see at the 2016 Xponential Music Festival presented by WXPN!

Queen of JeansJerseyArts.com Marina Stage at Wiggins Park: Friday Night 7/22 (4:35pm)

May as well start your weekend off right. The South Philly bands songs carry a great summer vibe in their sound and they are definitely one of the best of the local undercards on the bill, don’t miss them!

Father John Misty (Solo)River Stage at Wiggins Park:  Friday Night 7/22 (6:30pm)

Because why not. A dreamy summer festival set that will see the sun beginning to set over the Delaware River and the Philadelphia skyline across the water might be just the right setting for Father John Misty to share a solo set with a full audience.

Kurt Vile & the Violators BB&T Pavilion: Friday Night 7/22 (9:00pm)

Kurt and the band turned in a solid set at this year’s Non-COMM festivities at WXPN and World Café Live, I do not doubt that he will not disappoint the XPN faithful as he brings his intrepid alt folk style to the big stage under the lights of the BB&T Pavilion on Friday night!

Ryan Adams and The ShiningBB&T Pavilion:  Friday Night 7/22 (10:10pm)

Not a lot of acts these days carry the cred that Ryan Adams does, since I first heard his music over 15 years ago he has always seemed reluctantly close to becoming this generation’s wayward musical journeyman of the North East US of A in the tradition of guys like Springsteen before him. Beloved by his fans, Ryan will be playing to a packed amphitheater fresh off his performance at the Forecastle Festival.

Kississippi – JerseyArts.com Marina Stage at Wiggins Park: Saturday 6/23 (12:00pm)

The electro folk pop of another one of Philly’s own local bands will take the Marina Stage on Saturday to kick off the second day full of performances, be sure them check out as The University of The Arts own Colin James Kupson provides an immersive ambience in his guitar work as one half of the duo to compliment vocalist Zoë Allaire Reynolds.

Ben Arnold River Stage at Wiggins Park: Saturday 7/25 (12:30pm)

Ben is a guy whose name has come up frequently around Philadelphia in recent years, be sure to catch his Saturday set to find out why!

Alabama Shakes BB&T Pavilion: Saturday Night 7/26 (9:45pm)

Fresh off a successful album with stellar production behind it, Alabama Shakes are enjoying riding out the wake of their rise in popularity with a number of festival stops this summer, including right here at Philly’s own Xponential Festival!

The DistrictsRiver Stage at Wiggins Park:  Sunday 7/24 (2:20PM)

The Districts have had an eventfully busy past few years and on Sunday afternoon will bring their music to the Xponential audience on the River Stage.

Brandi CarlileBB&T Pavilion: Sunday Night 7/24 (9:30PM)

XPN fans love to see an act close out the Xponential Festival with style in the spirit of their tightly knit music community, and Brandi Carlile is a very fitting act to do justly that.

For all those who attend the Xponential Festival, please share your favorite performances from the weekend with us here at Rock On Philly! Cheers and we’ll see you at the waterfront in Camden!
