Quit sleepin’ on our “nasty boys”: Philly’s CERAMIC ANIMAL breaking out in 2018

Those who follow the Philly music scene closely have probably heard of Doylestown psych rock outfit Ceramic Animal. And soon…very soon… so will everyone else.

For a few years now the suit-clad foursome known as Ceramic Animal has been kicking around Philly and New York City. These self-proclaimed “couple a nasty boys” look anything but–in their signature matching three-piece-suits-and-ties. But it’s far from a gimmick. From where I sit these guys just might have what it takes.

Here is why I’m betting on these boys to have a breakout 2018:

They are polished, and poised to explode: The band covered a lot of ground in 2017– sharing the stage with some big names like Jukebox the Ghost, Kasabian, Rusted Root, and Father John Misty. They even sold out their first ever show at Johnny Brenda’s, a pretty good benchmark for a local act. Their last local performance was back in September at the first ever Philly Music Fest where their “pomp and panache” made them the talk of the festival.

Things are picking up, and they have more to come: Ceramic Animal’s first album “The Cart” is approaching its one-and-a-half-year birthday, and for a lot of artists, album years pass like dog years. But according to the band, they have seen a huge uptick in Spotify listeners in just the past couple months. Going from a low of 2,500 / day in November, to topping 10,000 / day in January. Their hit single “Dreams Via Memories”, just reached over 1,000,000 streams on Spotify, and has found its way onto the hand-curated “Modern Psychedelia” playlist on the platform. What’s more– the band has announced a second album due out in just a couple months, and has already released the first single of the new work titled “So Familiar”.

It’s all coming together: In just the last couple weeks we have seen three big announcements from the band. First, the aforementioned and much anticipated sophomore album. Second, a quick 4 date jaunt through the Midwest (Cleveland, Chicago, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh), all new territory for the band. And third, their first appearance at SXSW in Austin, TX with an official SXSW showcase. They were even featured as the SXSW Artist of the Day on January 26th (which is how I found out they would be down there).

When can you catch the boys in action? They’ll be playing a can’t-miss show Downstairs at World Cafe Live this Saturday, February 17th. The boys have support from fellow Philly pals Sixteen Jackies, and their new friend Dr. Danny (of the Lemon Twigs). It’s shaping up to be a wild night.

Doors for Ceramic Animal’s World Cafe Live show open at 7 pm, and you can grab tickets here for $14 in advance and $16 at the door (while they last!).
