Nehedar’s ESCAPING ZION Should Be Coming to Town Soon

Late last month, NYC singer-songwriter Emilia Cataldo, known by most as Nehedar, was set to play Teafull Bliss on Springgarden St, but Mother Nature did not cooperate. The show was cancelled due to the impending storm. While the show hasn’t yet been rescheduled, we’ve been promised of a future date that will bring this great songstress to the City of Brotherly Love.

If you’re not familiar with Nehedar’s music, you’re in luck because she has a new album and a new music video that are ripe for the picking. We’ll start with the video:

The upbeat lead single, “Mod Civ”, is the second track on the album, but one hell of a way to start off on your journey into Nehedar… a driving drum beat, festive horn lines, beautiful soaring vocals. On the band’s Facebook page, Jefferson Airplane is listed as an influence. This track feels very in touch with that influence.

As for the rest of the album, it’s equally impressive. Some tracks are as upbeat and danceable as “Mod Civ”, while others would be better described as ballads, and yet others are more or less straight ahead rock tunes. There seem to be equal doses of bands like Jefferson Airplane, 90s alternative music, folk rock, and female fronted indie rock acts like Eisley – or local faves Summer Scouts. Nehedar is a singer-songwriter willing to embrace a variety or musical styles and the album is all the better for it.

On top of “Mod Civ”, standout tracks include the rockin’ “Survival”, the sugar coated “Two Steps Behind”, and – of course – the closing track “Planets with Benny”, which is short but can bring a smile to anyone’s face.

Check out the album below and stay tuned for details on Nehedar making their way back to Philly.
