Rock On Philly: Bands & Bites- May Edition…Recap!

Photography by Rachel Barrish

On May 31st, Rock On Philly hosted the second edition of “Bands and Bites,” featuring performances by up-and-coming local artists at the Pyramid Club in Center City. The event was a resounding success, with a great turnout, delicious food and cocktails, and some truly excellent sets from a handful of talented young musicians. Guitarist Reid Bower opened the event with a number of instrumentals and beautiful acoustic pieces that highlighted his technical proficiency. Following Reid were the contenders for Rock On Philly’s May 2013 Artist of the Month: singer-songwriters Natalie Chapkis and Ashley Leone and alt-rockers Dayseam. Natalie’s set showed off her strong voice and multi- instrument abilities, while Dayseam’s dreamy numbers featured delicately-intertwining guitars. After the performances and audience vote, however, the winner was Ashley Leone, whose mix of originals and covers revealed a great mind for soulful songwriting and a voice to match.

As Artist of the Month, Ashley wins a spot in the competition for Rock On Philly’s 2013 Artist of the Year, to be held in December. From the incredible, 52nd-floor views of the city, to the great sponsorship of Marvin Capps Realty, Acre Mortgage, Allstate Insurance, Penn 1681 Vodka, Uber, Philly Sound Studios, and PUMEX Technologies, May’s “Bands and Bites” provided a night of great music and entertainment to all involved. Be sure to keep an eye out for the next edition of this fast- growing event. For a visual recap of the show, check out the photography of Rachel Barrish below!
