Album Review: Pet The Preacher – The Cave & The Sunlight

So one day, you are bored with all aspects of music and you decide to throw Clutch, Corrosion of Conformity, Monster Magnet and some metal shavings in a sound blender.  You dump it out and get Pet The Preacher, who are out of København.  And man, does it sound awesome.  And no, I still am not sure where København is.

The Cave & The Sunlight was released April 25, 2014 on Napalm Records. This album is beautifully mastered with an orgasmic sound.  I cannot put it any more up front. Each song stands alone with catchy blues riffs and solid drums.

The album begins soulful and bluesy with “The Cave’”creeping out of the speakers like a creature in the night.  That’s about it on this album for peaceful.  After that ‘Let Your Dragon Fly’ wakes you up with heavy strings and melodies.

‘Kamikaze Night’ kicks you in the face and leaves you begging for another beat down with a stellar drum intro.  This would have been great as track one, but it comes in at track three.  That’s okay, because it fits in there nicely.

Each song after this is like an extra sprinkle on the ice cream sundae.

“Fire Baby” is about the sexiest rock ‘n’ roll song ever bestowed upon my ears.  The perfect mix of gritty guitar that grooves along with temperamental drums slow you down into a euphoric coma makes this my number one pick off this album.

So if you dig stoner rock, groove rock and any other kind of sexy rock that teeters the fine line of rock and metal, pick up this album.

Best listened to at full volume just under distortion level while cruising on the open highway a little too fast.
