May Music Discovery: Lovers League

For the month of May, you’re getting all new music all the time! Stay tuned all month for artist recommendations you might not already know about!

Just in case you didn’t know, Philly has a super amazing folk music scene, and a pretty sweet folk music festival too, called Philly Folk Fest. Between Folkadelphia, the Philly Folk Song Society, and independent, uh…folks like the Kettle Pot Tracks crew, there are plenty of opportunities for the fabulous artists in our town to be showcased.

That’s all good news for someone like me who enjoys and follows these folk artists (but, y’know, not in a creepy way). And it’s the way that I find out about new folk artists that I should be paying attention to, like Lovers League. Lovers League features folk scene familiar face Reverend TJ McGlinchey, sweetheart Dani Mari, and old-time young gun Christopher Davis-Shannon. The sound the three produce is simultaneously worthy of a sing-along and of a boot-stomping get-together around a campfire–all things that are right up my alley as a listener. Don’t take my word for it; check out their track “Cowboy” and judge for yourself!
