Rock On Philly’s Your Perfect Weekend

Today marks the start of Beer Week here in Philadelphia, and with the amount of local craft breweries that call our city home you can bet we take it very seriously. Events around the city will be celebrating years of traditional brewing and commitment to taste and quality. To augment a weekend full of beer, pair your beverages with a variety of rock n’ roll. From more punk-esque styles, to hard-hitting, in your face heavy rock, Philadelphia has everything you need to enjoy the weekend.

Later you will be busy, so be sure to arrive at The Twisted Tail as early as possible. Not only will you make it on time to tonight’s concert, but you can also indulge in their happy hour specials of select three-dollar drafts and four-dollar bourbon drinks. And don’t pass by their food menu either with tantalizing options like bourbon-braised veal and grilled Pennsylvania trout.

Start your weekend concert experiences out on the heavy side of the spectrum with Red Fang at the Trocadero. The four Portland natives that comprise Red Fang might look and sound rugged, but their comedic side shines through in their videos. Rest assured that their face melting licks, distorted rhythmic guitar work, and powerful vocals will blow you away.

Take a small break from the beer infused weekend ahead with a light-hearted scavenger hunt along the waterfront. Walnut2Walnut is a two-four person group scavenger hunt beginning at the Schuylkill River and ended at the Seaport Museum along the Delaware. Teams will solve nautical themed challenges and the first to arrive at the Seaport Museum with a completed list wins.

Ohio-based Foxy Shazam will be headlining the TLA starting at 8pm. This six-piece, along with the normal instruments (bass, guitar and drums), also boasts a trumpet player and pianist raising the band to a whole new level. Their dramatic performances are coupled perfectly with lead singer Eric Nally’s spectacular vocals.

Today is when the drinking really starts. East Passyunk Avenue, in celebration of Beer Week and Italian National Day, will be hosting Craft Beer Day from 10am all the way until 2am. Almost ten bars throughout the Passyunk area will offer beer specials and will be accompanied by various street vendors, food stands and live entertainment.

At night, Founders Brewing Company will take over the World Live Café for Founders All Star Road Show. The evening’s entertainment will consist of the Founders’ All Stars, the official brewery band consisting of brewers, managers and servers from the Michigan-based company. If that doesn’t excite you, you should know that the band is bringing with them some specialty beers that have never been offered on tap outside Founders taproom.
