Rock On Philly’s Your Perfect Weekend

It’s finally June and it’s really starting to feel like summer. The sun is out in full strength forcing some of us fairer skinned folk inside, but with the extent of outdoor activities, it might be better to just suck it up and get out there. So get in the swing of things and enjoy Rock On Philly’s Perfect Weekend.

Kick off your weekend with the first of many Visit Philly sponsored pop-up, outdoor beer gardens that will travel around Philadelphia for the next three months. The inaugural location of the Visit Philly Beer Garden Happy Hour Series is Morgan’s Pier. Lining up with Philly’s famous Beer Week, Morgan’s Pier offers a huge waterfront patio with awesome views, a new summer inspired menu and 14 beers on tap from 4pm-7pm.

Head over to Philadelphia’s iconic Mann Center where Jack Johnson will be performing at 7:30pm. The laid-back, surf inspired style of Jack Johnson, along with his fitting vocals, has become a staple for many music listeners over the years. Joined by singer songwriter Amos Lee, this is a performance you won’t want to miss.

Take advantage of the last day of Philly Beer Week that you can participate in without going to work hung-over and feeling like garbage. Johnny Brenda’s as well as Fette Sau and Frankford Hall will be hosting Fishtown FestivALE. Starting 12pm the festival offers beer, food and even live music and DJs. Featuring Sly Fox Brewing Company this event will take place on Frankford Avenue from Girard to Shackamaxon.

In the evening, Los Angeles electronic singer songwriter Jillian Banks, simply known as BANKS, will be headlining Underground Arts beginning at 7pm. Her relaxing, unique electronic sound is augmented by her airy, beautiful voice that pierces the background beats. Tickets are 20 dollars.

If you followed my instructions so far, you’ve been drinking some great beer for the last couple of days. In case your head isn’t feeling up to par, the 2014 Burger Brawl at Xfinity Live is the perfect cure. From 3pm-6pm, local burger joints will compete for People’s Choice and Judge’s Choice burger. Attending the event will cost you 35 dollars and will cover your entrée and unlimited samples from the over 40 participating restaurants.

Cool down your weekend with The Big Quiz Thing at the World Live Café. The famous TV game show’s host Noah Tarnow will be hosting the night’s entertainment involving puzzles, trivia and many other challenges. 8 dollars will get you into the event and will give you the opportunity to win entry to Philadelphia Magic Gardens, Philadelphia Seaport Museum and future World Café Live events among others.
