Capital Cities on Katy Perry, Dance Injuries, and Philadelphia

Capital Cities has been gaining momentum in the past year with the release of their single “Safe and Sound“. Now they are on tour with Katy Perry and will be performing both nights of her show in Philadelphia. We had a chance to ask a few questions to Sebu Simonian of the Los Angeles duo to get ready for the Prismatic World Tour at the Wells Fargo Center.Rock On Philly: It’s so fantastically crazy that two guys found each other on Craigslist and now you’re going international. How long did it take for you guys to realize that you two were made for each other?

Sebu Simonian: We decided to start Capital Cities about 2 years after we met.

ROP: Do you plan on visiting any Philly landmarks during your two day stay? Anything you’re looking forward to doing in Philadelphia?

SS: Ishkabibble’s.

ROP: The music video for “Safe and Sound” was nominated for Best Visual Effects in the last MTV VMAs. The choreography is great and the video’s vibrancy is super fitting for the song. How long did it take for you to learn your choreography and to complete all the dance sequences with the dancers in the video?

SS: We needed about 2 weeks of intense rehearsals with choreographer Mandy Moore. No, not the singer. I injured my Achilles heel during rehearsals. It sucked!

ROP: Are there any artists you would like to work with in the future whether it is to record, produce, or perform with?

SS: Quentin Tarantino.

ROP: How has touring with Katy Perry been so far?

SS: Electrifying!

ROP: You two have your own headlining shows scheduled for October. Any chance of making it to Philadelphia again?

SS: Most definitely. This fall for sure as part of our headline tour.  Announcement coming soon!

ROP: Do you have any hidden talents outside of music?

SS: Gardening, sketching, basketball, and making a good scrabble.

ROP: Thanks for your time and we look forward to the good times you’ll be bringing to Philly! Rock on!
