Monday Playlist: Back to School

It’s that time of year again. Kids are heading back to school and college students are shipping back to campus. Such a different feeling for the former who are most likely dreading the end of summer whereas the latter are filled with excitement and anticipation.

With the dawn of music streaming services and the internet providing us with more music than we have time to listen to it’s easy to forget about college radio. Philly and its suburbs are filled with a myriad of fine colleges, a good number of which have fantastic college radio stations. Drexel University‘s WKDU runs a fine station at 91.7 on your dial, Swarthmore College‘s WSRN has an eclectic mix at 91.5, Rowan University‘s WGLS at 89.7, Villanova University WXVU 89.1, and of course the professionally run WXPN 88.5 public radio from the University of Pennsylvania, all offer great ways to discover excellent new music. Temple University and UPenn also have some great student run stations online that you should checkout at WHIP and WQHS respectively.

Here’s a playlist of songs from bands that got a little help breaking through to the mainstream from college radio stations. Also, let us know if we missed your favorite college radio station in the comments!
