10 Made in America Moments You Might Have Missed

Made in America 2014 rocked Philadelphia for the third year in a row, with over 44,000 diehard music fans in attendance. From Kings of Leon to Kanye West to Spoon and Pharrell, there were some incredible performances in the City of Brotherly Love. What’s more, we drank beer all day, ate from awesome food trucks, made new friends, and danced like it was our job. Missed out on the action? Don’t worry! Rock On Philly has you covered with 10 Made in America 2014 Moments You Might Have Missed.

1. The weather on Saturday was perfect! The humidity was low which made it a great hair day (especially for bangs!) Everyone was chipper and we even made some new friends.

2. Things got even better when Cherub got onstage. Doses and Mimosas? Yes, please.

3. Then we were whisked away by the soulful sounds of City and Colour. We were even given a quick hip shaking lesson to get warmed up for Kanye.

4. Not wanting to lose our spot in front of the Rocky Stage for Kanye West, we enjoyed a Steve Aoki dance party with fellow festival goers from a distance. Still, he really knows how to get a crowd going. I call this piece, the dance of the Steve Aoki fairies.

5. And then of course, the performance everyone was waiting for that night- Kanye West. He wore a mask for most of it and went on a really long rant. He also performed “Blood on the Leaves” more than once. I think 3 times total. Then we went home- thoroughly exhausted but stoked for Day 2!

6. And Day 2 wasn’t so nice out. It was a bit muggy. Luckily Grimes brought her a- game with some cool interpretive dancers and made us forget all about feeling…well, er, grimy!

7. Then we were downright giddy to see Spoon perform- one of our favorite bands!! We rocked out to a few songs when it started to rain- a lot.  Then Britt Daniel drops the mic and says, “They’re telling us we need to get off the stage.” A few minutes later, we see this:

8. So we left and hoped for the best. The rain wasn’t that bad! Just a slight drizzle really…

9. Then a little over an hour later, it was back to the music thank goodness! Redemption! Saved by the oh so amazing Spoon. It rained for most of their set, but it was glorious. We got by in the “stormy weather” and their performance was a festival favorite. Definitely a moment to remember.

10. Ok. Pharell Williams was also our favorite performance of Made in America 2014. He has so many hits! And put on a fantastic show. The whole crowd was just buzzing with “happy” vibes. Our cheeks hurt from smiling so much. 🙂

11. Ok, ok. We do know how to count. This was supposed to be Top 10 moments, but how can we not include Kings of Leon??!! They were incredible live!  Hearing the entire crowd sing “Use Somebody” was pretty special too. Gotta love the power of music…

Finally, we have to give a shout out to this delicious pulled pork sandwich from Vernalicious. After a day of dancing and beer, this is just what the doctor ordered.
