Why Aren’t You Listening to: Bahamas

“Why Aren’t You Listening to” is a new irregular series at Rock on Philly, spotlighting artists in Philly and beyond that you should be keeping an eye (and ear) out for! The first in the series focuses on Bahamas.

Why you should be listening: Bahamas is the project of 33-year-old Toronto artist Afie Jurvanen, backed by various band members and vocalists. The singer-songwriter just released the outfit’s newest album, Bahamas is Afie. The musical effort is full of thoughtful songs ranging from slow burners you’ll strain to hear every bit of to snappy anthems that you’ll have stuck in your head for days. You might have just missed the Bahamas appearance at Boot and Saddle on September 15th, but if you start listening to them now, you won’t make that mistake again.

Sounds like:  Letters and texts from your best guy friend, who learned to play guitar and now sings them to you with the help of his most harmonious friends.

Listen to: Anything you can find. But specifically, try “All the Time”, the chill rock number you wish you could throw in the face of the ex who didn’t think you were enough.
