WKDU 91.7 FM Brings Back Electronic Music Marathon

After a seven-year hiatus, WKDU 91.7 FM, the award-winning radio station of Drexel University, is bringing back its Electronic Music Marathon (EMM). The 11th EMM will occur this Columbus Day weekend, October 10th to 13th. Like in past years, EMM will be raising money for local charities while providing the Philadelphia community some awesome electronic music by locally- and nationally-acclaimed DJ’s!

“We decided to bring back the EMM this year out of sheer ambition,” explains Chris Burrell, the Electronic Director of WKDU. “WKDU has an amazing exec staff right now, and interest in electronic music has never been higher.  We said, ‘why not!?’”  This year, the money raised will be split between Musicopia and The Village of Arts and Humanities, arts education nonprofits based in Philly, and paying WKDU’s operating costs.

“We are fortunate enough to have an amazing (and still growing) roster of DJ’s that are donating their time and money to our cause, including King Britt, Dave P (Making Time), DJ Apt One (Young Robots Records), Matthew Law (Illvibe Collective), Les Professionnels, and many more – some of which are even Drexel alum!” says Chris.

Musicopia will be in the studio with four of the musical acts on Saturday, October 11th, while The Village will be in the studio on Monday, October 13th.  Listeners will be able to purchase T-shirts and other gift packages online at wkdu.org/store – all proceeds will be split amongst WKDU, Musicopia, and The Village.

Tune in this weekend to hear an eclectic mix of house, techno, disco, dance, and everything electronic that you won’t hear on any other station, while supporting college radio and some amazing causes.  Says Chris: “Student-run radio stations are few and far between, and we are blessed to have a passionate listener audience that really cares about us. There’s truly no other radio station like KDU in Philly.”
