Kendrick Lamar Drops Biting New Single

Kendrick Lamar has released a brazen new single titled “The Blacker The Berry.”

Following his Grammy-winning “i,” which won Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance, this track has a completely different tone, but is equally as strong (if not, stronger) and perceptive.  Where “i” was optimistic, “The Blacker The Berry” is dark, baleful, and duels with racism, “generational hatred” and uses contemporary and distant history alike as fighting words. The lyrics, “You hate me don’t you?/You hate my people, your plan is to terminate my culture/You’re f***king evil I want you to realize that I’m a proud monkey/You vandalize my perception but can’t take style from me,” shows the effect of wrongfully-ingrained stereotypes on generations of African-American men and how Lamar uses it as fuel for his raging fire.
