Why Aren’t You Listening To: Royal Blood

“Why Aren’t You Listening to” is an irregularly running series at Rock on Philly, spotlighting artists in Philly and beyond that you should be keeping an eye (and ear) out for! The most recent series installment focuses on rock duo Royal Blood, from the UK.

Why you should be listening: Royal Blood has been getting major love on modern rock airwaves recently (like on 93.3 WMMR), and has secured enough buzz to open for the Foo Fighters in their upcoming tour (Dave Grohl even called them of his “favorite” bands).

Sounds like: Unadulterated rock ‘n’ roll. The British band creates some heavy, catchy riffs and it’s incredible that two people can sound like a five-piece stadium band. Comparisons have been made to bands Wolfmother and Queens of the Stone Age, but I also get a Muse vibe as well.

Listen to: Their self-titled debut album, especially the sleek and sexy “Figure It Out,” heavy “Little Monster” and funky “Ten Tonne Skeleton.”
