Best of The Dead Weather: Supergroup Announces Third Album

In April, Jack White announced that he would be taking an indefinite break from performing after the tour for his second solo album, Lazaretto. Though it may have seemed like Jack White would retreat back to his Nashville home and enjoy whatever level of obscurity is attainable for a musician as iconic as he is, White just can’t stay away from his music for long. Yesterday, The Dead Weather announced that their third LP Dodge & Burn will be released in September via Jack White’s label Third Man Records. For this supergroup composed of Jack White, Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age) and Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs), Dodge & Burn is their first record since 2010’s Sea of Cowards. It’s easy for supergroups to go wrong, but The Dead Weather is an exception to the rule – when Jack White’s shrill shouts intertwine with Alison Mosshart’s sultry, grunge vocals over a backdrop of veteran, bluesy guitar work, there’s no denying that this four-piece has something special to share.

It’s unclear whether The Dead Weather will tour or not, but we’d kill to see Jack White and Alison Mosshart share a microphone again. At the very least, check out Alison Mosshart and The Kills at Union Transfer on September 23 – we loved them when they played at the Trocadero last October.

Over the last year, The Dead Weather have released three songs through Third Man Record’s Vault subscription service. But while you wait for the album to drop in September, listen to our playlist of the best songs from The Dead Weather and their collaborators.
