Some artists seem to have their Philadelphia heritage tied to their image – Questlove & The Roots, Will SmithKurt Vile, Silvertide, etc. – but some of these other international stars who have Philly roots may surprise you…

Hall & Oates

Both members of the commercially and critically acclaimed duo, Daryl Hall and John Oates, were born and raised in the Philadelphia suburbs and met each other while attending Temple University. Hall & Oates will perform during the Grand Opening of the The Fillmore Philadelphia on Thursday, October 1st.

Joan Jett

Rock and Rock Hall of Fame inductee and former Runaway, Joan Jett spent her early childhood in Wynnewood, an inner suburb of Philadelphia.

Matisyahu

The Jewish reggae rapper/alternative rock musician was born in West Chester, PA and grew up there before moving to New York as a teen.

P!nk

Pop rock songstress Alecia Moore (better known as P!nk) was born and raised in Bucks County and attended Central Bucks High School West.

Santigold

Eclectic singer and producer Santigold (real name Santi White) attended Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia. She’s coming back for Made In America in September–get more info to give her a warm welcome back here!

Patti LaBelle

This iconic songstress and actress with a huge voice and even bigger personality has graced the stage and our hearts for over fifty years…and was born in Philadelphia! You might have noticed her on these past seasons of American Horror Story: Freak ShowDancing With the Stars or even picked up her own line of BBQ sauce. Can we get an ‘amen’ for how vibrant she is?
