The Story of Sonny Boy Slim is the fourth full-length album from Gary Clark Jr., and it is another ingenious merger of hard rock blues and R&B. Clark’s high-pitched voice soars in the mix above smooth rhythms while twangy, distorted guitars add their own grunge feel to the mix. The album tells the story of Clark’s past, and while some songs tell somber stories in folk fashion, like “Church,” others lean more towards the rowdy side of things, like “BYOB.”
