The 2010’s are shaping up to be a great time for female-fronted rock bands. Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale, The Pretty Reckless’ Taylor Momsen, and Ellie Rowsell of Wolf Alice are just a few examples of rock’s badass front women of today. ZouZou Mansour, the lead singer in Philly rock band Soraia, is one of those women. In Soraia’s new EP Less Than Zero, she sings and wails with such emotion that you can tell it comes from the heart. “This whole record was written over a number of life transitions for me, so the lyrics absolutely reflect that. Each song is about something that was going on in my life, and my intrinsic reaction to it, and I survived it, and became stronger from it all,” Mansour says. “That’s the point of dark times, I think. Not a test, but the soul gets stronger and more empathetic and more connected.”
