Just in case you missed it, four of the best college bands in the Philadelphia area threw down the gauntlet at Rock On Philly’s inaugural Battle of the College Bands. These four hopefuls (DistressorBaby Blitz, Andorra and INDIGOLD) took the stage and blew the judges’ and the audience’s minds at Hard Rock Cafe, all for the title of Winner of the Battle of the College Bands and Grand Prize Package. The Grand Prize Package includes: an editorial length feature with Rock On Philly, recording time with Philly Sound Studios, a full-year membership to Reverbnation, a 1-hour consultation with top entertainment attorney Lori Landew, a 3-hour marketing consultation with top music marketing agency Fame House, a 100-CD Duplication package from Mirror Image, a 1-year membership to Zip Car and much more. With all of that on the line, it’s no wonder the bands pulled out all the stops to put on a fantastic show!

Distressor opened up with distinctive hard yet melodic rock tunes that had me both swaying and simultaneously head-banging in the far and away land by the door.

Baby Blitz had that fun, quirky sound that seems to make the rainy days better.

INDIGOLD had the most distinctive sound, laying down rolling beats and experimental vocals that made me want to kick back and feel it in the airwaves.

But, none other than our winner Andorra had that special 90’s alt-rock feel that had the crowd and judges begging for more.

Our esteemed judges Sheena Lester (Arts and Culture Editor of Philly Weekly), Brian Cronin (owner of Mirror Image and That Music Mag), and Charlie Bartlett (co-founder of KBM Productions and JAZZ IT UP PHILLY) may be all fun and games in our photo below, but they really had the toughest job: narrowing down their votes on which College Band they thought rocked the house.

In the end, it was the combined total of judges’ score and the audience’s votes that tipped Andorra over the edge. You will be sure to hear great things from these guys in the near future. Stay tuned!
