Drivers, start your engines! If you’ve been playing the NASCAR ’15 racing game, chances are you’ve stumbled across Philly’s newest up-and-coming country rocker, John Scargall. His single “Leave It On The Track” was featured as the game’s theme song. And with his debut album Breakthrough released on October 6, he is ready to race straight to the top!

Scargall has been a prevalent force for good in the Philadelphia music scene for a while now. Moved by “That Wind’s Always Gonna Blow,” Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children embraced his music as a vehicle to inspire donors to support their cause (check out the video here). And Scargall uses both his music and his time to help PACT for Animals and other organizations that support animal rescue and care. His passion has landed him on various radio shows and even on PBS39’s Steel Sessions (check out his appearance here). Now he is spreading his voice across the rest of the country by performing at NASCAR races and numerous colleges.

John Scargall has a powerful voice and something to say, and he uses his debut album to share his positive view of life with his fans, affectionately known as “Scargies.” Breakthrough contains fun, danceable tracks such as “I Would Do Anything” and “A Little Bit Of Lovin’ If You Don’t Mind,” (the second of which was originally written and performed by fellow Philadelphian Christian O’Connor). And it features songs with anthemic vibes such as “Live Out Loud” and “Harder They Fall.”

A highlight of the album is the power-ballad/title-track, “Breakthrough,” but the standout song is definitely “Tearin’ Me Up.” With both electric guitar and fiddle, “Tearin’ Me Up” captures Scargall’s definitive sound of groove-rock with country twang. The hook line of the chorus, “It’s tearin’ me up that you think you’ll tear me down,” is a great representation of Scargall’s overall message of empowerment that pervades the album.

For the past year, John Scargall has been touring the country and bringing country rock to NASCAR, all the while using his free time to help out various organizations right here in Philly. Now, with his debut album Breakthrough, he is ready to go full speed ahead into his career. So, start your engines, and get ready to rock!
