You know going to festivals requires intense preparation. From checking the approved list for what you can and cannot bring in, coming up with the funds to go, and, most importantly, figuring out where and which of your favorite acts are playing on the grounds itself, you know there is a lot to do! But, what about the people who run the festival behind the scenes, the people who make the festival itself happen. From picking and scheduling the venue, the artists, then getting everything together…what does their day-to-day look like making sure that you have a great time?

We recently sat down with Heather West of Western Publicity, one of the key people making your favorite bands, concerts, and festivals come to life and in a city near you. Her most recent endeavor was Chicago’s Riot Fest, which has grown from a small basement show to a multi-day, multi-city festival bringing in music legends like Iggy Pop, Blondie, The Dead Milkmen, No Doubt, and uniting them with fans of all ages and music tastes.

Sounds awesome, but extremely over-whelming. Don’t think I could handle the pressure/stress. Props to Heather West.
