Thanksgiving Eve is often seen as a bit of a homecoming for folks around the country. It’s a time to celebrate with family, old friends, and plenty of libations while we give thanks for all that life has given us. Well, we’re so grateful for what 2015 has brought us that Rock On Philly is going to give back while we give thanks! Wednesday, November 25th, Rock On Philly is teaming up with Ardmore Music Hall for their Thanksgiving Eve Hometown Throwdown featuring Tom Hamilton’s American Babies to collect non-perishable food items to benefit Philabundance, a food bank serving Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley.

Tom Hamilton has had a banner 2015. He’s played numerous shows throughout the year with Joe Russo’s Almost Dead (ft. Marco Benevento), Electron (ft. more Philly musicians from The Disco Biscuits and Lotus), Bill Kreutzmann’s Billy & The Kids, and his own group, Tom Hamilton’s American Babies. The latter has been on a tear lately, playing several summer festivals, including a couple stops in Scranton for Camp Bisco and The Peach Festival (where Rolling Stone named Hamilton the festival MVP), and is currently on tour supporting Greensky Bluegrass. The American Babies have been recording a new album all year (hopefully, we’ll get a listen soon!) and they’ll be bringing new tunes and old favorites like “Old Time Religion” back to Ardmore for the first time since their Live from the Lot debut back in the summer. The group, consisting entirely of Philadelphia musicians is excited to take a break from the road and play this hometown Thanksgiving Eve show that is going to be one for the books.

We couldn’t be more excited to team up with Philabundance and our friends at Ardmore Music Hall to bring you this food drive! As a bonus, for each item that you bring, you’ll be given a raffle ticket to win concert tickets from Ardmore Music Hall!

For donations, Philabundance asks that you bring items recently purchased and in good condition in the following containers:

  • Boxes
  • Cans; or
  • Plastic bottles

Please note that bread and other baked goods are not ideal because of their short shelf life.

Philabundance is in great need of the following items:

  • Canned fruits and vegetables
  • Canned meat and fish
  • Jellies, jams, or preserves
  • Canned or jarred proteins like peanut butter, beans, canned stews, and chili
  • Pasta, rice, and dry mixes
  • Breakfast foods (hot and cold cereals, bars, and oatmeal)
  • Macaroni & cheese

Doors on Wednesday night (11/25) open at 7:30, but be sure to get there early because also performing that night is Philly funk band The 9’s and–rumor has it–there will be a special appearance by Tom McKee of the now defunct Philly band Brothers Past (!!!).

Tickets for this all-Philly evening are only $15 and can be purchased here.
