With the growing consolidation of commercial radio stations and decline in constant radio listeners, many stations have relied on the same tried and true methods of playing standard favorites with little experimentation. Tune into any city in the country, and you’ll find a Top 40 pop station with DJs that all sound the same. In this depressing radio climate, WXPN stands out as an original. WXPN is the non-commercial, member-supported radio service of the University of Pennsylvania and one of its missions is to “connect artists and audiences with a particular emphasis on new and significant artists and music.” It’s an admirable goal that has led to XPN becoming one of Philly’s significant cultural institutions. To learn more about this one-of-a-kind station in the greater Philadelphia area, Rock On Philly spoke to John Vettese, the passionate Editor of The Key and Social Media Coordinator for XPN.

Having reading this article now I need to make a point to meet John. It seems like he was two or three peas over in my pod!
