Best Weekend Ever: Rooney, Explosions In The Sky, Beach Slang

Thursday 5/19:

NYLON presents The Welcome Home Tour with Rooney, Attica Riots, The Snails from Philly, and Mainland at The Foundry. Rooney aka Robert Schwartzman has been making music since 1999 when he was in high school. His new album Washed Away was released this month with a new lineup. Tickets are available here.


Friday 5/20:

Rock band Explosions in the Sky sold out both their shows in DC and also their Philly show at The Fillmore. Their latest album The Wilderness released on April 1st received positive reviews. The album is dynamic, adventurous, and nostalgic to their older works. Try looking for tickets here if you don’t have one already!


While you’re still at The Fillmore after Explosions in the Sky, head on upstairs to The Foundry to see Rufus Wainwright‘s late show. His voice will make you feel all kinds of emotions as he croons away his popular renditions like “Hallelujah” and “Across the Universe.” Tickets are still available here.


Saturday 5/21:

EDM master Steve Aoki at is headlining Drexel’s Spring Jam. The event is free for Drexel students, but you can purchase tickets if you don’t have a Drexel student ID. Get tickets here!


LANY will be performing at World Cafe Live in University City. The trio has a busy summer ahead, including Firefly Festival. The schedule of the festival just came out and they are confirmed to be performing on Thursday night. Other festivals they will be participating are Sasquatch, Bunbury, and Bonnaroo. Philadelphia’s own Beach Slang will be at Union Transfer with lady rockers Potty Mouth, Dyke Drama from Washington, and Positive No. Beach Slang has a great local following so it will be a fun time with people who care about their music. Tickets are available here.

Sunday 5/22:

The South 9th St Italian Market Festival is back for more food, music, and activities for the whole family. The second day of the festival will feature highlights including Procession of the Saints, a car show, and display of a Wishing Well created during the Pope’s visit. There is no entree fee to walk around the festival!
