Best Weekend Ever: Outdoor Shows Are Back!

More and more outdoor events are sprouting back in action as the weather warms up. Start gearing up for summer shows and festivals and head out for some sun and fun!

 

Thursday 5/12:

The first Night Market of the season will start in Roxborough, and will feature live music, local vendors, and awesome food options lining up the streets. The headlining musical act on the Main Stage is Worldtown Sound System.

The Mann Center is open again for business! Cage the Elephant with Portugal. The Man and BRONCHO are taking over the Skyline Stage. Cage the Elephant is hitting up some rad festivals this year like Hangout Music Festival and Austin City LimitsBRONCHO‘s latest album Double Vanity will be released on June 10th and the album is full of exciting sounds. Stand out track “Fantasy Boys” lives up to the name with an ethereal tone blended with the garage sound and cool vocal layers forming an interesting harmony.

 

Multi-talented performer Mac DeMarco will be performing at Electric Factory to a fully sold out crowd. He sets himself apart with his laid-back use of psychedelic sounds and raw indie rock. Try finding tickets here if you don’t have them already.

 

Say Anything‘s show is sold out at the TLA. They dropped a surprise album in February and it’s exactly what their fans wanted. Other artists on the lineup include mewithoutYou, Teen Suicide, and Museum Mouth. If you haven’t gotten tickets yet and still want to go, give a shot here.

 

Friday 5/13:

Friday is the first day of the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta along the Schuylkill River. The race has been taking place on the river annually since 1953. Hundreds of colleges will be participating in the big race, so go cheer on our local Philly schools! Checkout the course map and find the best watching spot for the exciting race.

 

Goth rock artist Chelsea Wolfe is performing a set with A Dead Forest Index at Underground Arts. Her latest album Abyss has the alternative rock goodness with a dark side. If you’re into the darker side of rock and you don’t know Chelsea Wolfe, you are certainly missing out. Tickets are still available here.

 

Houston’s alternative rockers Blue October will be at Electric Factory. The venue will be great for getting to experience first hand Blue October’s live use of strings and grunge sound. Fellow Texan Danny Malone will be opening for them with his intriguingly bare simplicity. Get tickets here.

 

Saturday 5/14:

 

Have a relaxed night with folk rockers of The Avett Brothers at The Mann. The Avett Brothers have busy summer ahead, with Austin City Limits and Forecastle Festival on their tour schedule. Their new album True Sadness isn’t out until late June, but they’ll surely let us hear a sneak peak of it this weekend. Into country? Alternative country rockers Old 97’s and garage band Heartless Bastards are coming to Union Transfer. Old 97’s have been in business since 1993, and have more than enough music to share with us throughout the night. Get tickets here.

 

Sunday 5/15:

British rockers The 1975 will be at The Mann Center with Wolf Alice. Both bands are incredibly talented and it’s a real treat to have them performing on the same stage in one night. The 1975 will put on a visually intriguing performance while Wolf Alice will get raw and rock out. Get tickets here!
