Best Philly Bands to Rock the 2016 XPoNential Music Festival

Live music is the best part of summer, and here in Philly, we are lucky enough to have a music festival right in our hometown! The XPoNential Music Festival presented by Subaru will be held on July 22-24, and it will be a weekend to remember. The festival features artists heard on Philly’s own public radio station, WXPN 88.5FM, and although there are many national acts on the bill, we here at Rock On Philly are excited about the overwhelming number of Philadelphia-based musicians in the lineup! Here are our favorite Philly artists who will be rocking the XPoNential Music Festival this year.

8) Kississippi

Kississippi is ingrained in the Philly community. With a Philly native as the founder, an attendee of the University of the Arts in the band, and a collaboration with Drexel for their record, the band has explored the Philly music scene and conquered it. Their hazy vibes and almost emo feel give them an eclectic sound that will create a unique change of pace at the XPoNential Music Festival.

7) Queen of Jeans

Queen of Jeans, the female-fronted, retro-pop band, is bound to rule your world at the festival. The Philly-based group combines soft-rock with trippy-pop to create effortless jams. Plus, the video for their cover of “Walk Like An Egyptian” features their mothers as the stars of the production, so how can you not be a fan of the band?

6) Ben Arnold

Bringing a more relaxed, singer-songwriter vibe to the festival is Philly’s own Ben Arnold. His songs have such a classic feel that you won’t be able to help but sing along to his catchy choruses. Check him out on the 22nd in Wiggins Park!

5) Eliza Hardy Jones

A seasoned musician, Eliza Hardy Jones has played with numerous other artists, including Buried Beds (Philly-based) and Grace Potter. Her raw and real songs, combined with her singer-songwriter vocals, make her a captivating musician that you won’t want to miss at the XPoNential Music Festival this year!

4) RoseMary Fiki

With passionate vocals and expressive bass lines, RoseMary Fiki brings Philly soul to the eclectic pop-rock genre. The rhythms and vibes that drive her music will be sure to have you jamming right along with her at the festival, and her captivating personality will keep you “right here waiting.”

3) Low Cut Connie

Classic rock-n-roll has made a comeback (although let’s be honest – it never really left), and it is hailing straight from the City of Brotherly Love. Low Cut Connie’s nostalgic vibes are punctuated by the band’s fun personality, resulting in music that will be sure to make you smile. Check out these local rockstars as they bring their Philly pride to national levels through rock-n-roll.

2) The Districts

As a small town band that is now becoming a household name, The Districts are making their mark on the indie rock scene. They have played around the world, but we get to hear these local guys rock our city as they perform back in Philly for the XPoNential Music Festival.

1) Kurt Vile

Already established in the global scene, the local legend Kurt Vile will be one of the headliners for the XPoNential Music Festival this year. His indie rock style comes alive with the help of his backing band, The Violators, and his folk influences will carry each track into the hearts and ears of the festivalgoers. You won’t want to miss it!

Who are YOU most excited to see this year at the XPoNential Music Festival?
